Summary
In Angel Sister, it seems like the Merritt family is falling apart. Kate's father's addiction to alcohol and post-traumatic stress disorder are causing trouble for the family, and being in the midst of the Great Depression doesn't help either. As much as Nadine loves Victor just as much as she did when she first fell for him in school, she can't help but rethink her current situation. Evie seems oblivious and Tori is too concerned with catching worms for fishing to worry, leaving Kate to deal with the family. Kate must take care of her father, but she never complains because she wants her family to stay united. Feuding parents on either side of the family add to the dire situation, but who would've know that a little five year old girl named Lorena Birdsong that Kate finds on the church steps when takign her grandfather jam could possibly be just what they need? As they unite to fight for Lorena and to give her the best life possible, they come together and realize that they are by far best together. Lorena turns their lives upside-down and will forever change the Merritt family. Throughout the story, Lorena will test the bonds of the Merritt family as they fight for what is right. Even when she is taken unwillingly by Ella Baxter and Grandfather Merritt and is treated poorly, they don't give up. Kate must help rescue Lorena, but she'll need the help of family and friends throughout the book. When a raging fire set by Grandfather Merritt threatens to kill her and Lorena, Kate must look to God, who she has trouble trusting because of all the pain in her life. The whole family must come together and become a true angel family.
