Setting

Angel Sister takes place in a quaint, small fictional town called Rosey Corner, Kentucky. Rosey Corner is partly based off of the town where Ann Gabhart's mother grew up during the Great Depression. Ann talked to her mother about her childhood memories and incorporated them into the book. Angel Sister takes place during the summer of 1936, right in the midst of the Great Depression, a period of time in history of extreme economic hardship. Rosey Corner is one of those towns where everyone seems toknow everyone, and no one is a stranger. The Merritt's and the Reece's are the two families who have a church in town, with Kate's father, Victor, being part of the Merritt family, while Kate's mother, Nadine, is a Reece. Both fathers have different opinions on how to run a church and a community. There's also a general store and a blacksmith shop downtown, as well as a few other unnamed places. It's a small town, but in the end, it has a big story to tell.
