Theme

The theme of Angel Sister is that it's important to love family and friends even in hard times, and together you can make it through the situation you're in. Even though neither of their families approved, Nadine and Victor dated and eventually got married because they were madly in love with each other. Even though they were disappointed, their families still loved Nadine and Victor. After Victor goes off to fight in the war, he comes back with an alcohol addiction and post-traumatic stress disorder. Even through his flaws, Nadine still loves Victor for the man she first fell in love with. Some nights Victor comes home extremely late and drunk, but she still doesn't leave him. Kate steps in and takes care of her father, but he feels bad making her take care of him. Even though the Great Depression is taking its toll on many families, including the Merritts, they have to stick together to make it through the hard times. As they struggle to do this, Lorena comes into their lives and changes everything. They must all come together to fight for Lorena and her well-being, and she helps keep the family intact with her loving nature. She brings happiness with her to the Merritt family, and in turn they give happiness to her. As they stick together through all the ups and downs that life throws at them, the Merritts discover that through their love for each other, they can conquer anything.
